Torus Technology Torus
Integration Guide

This integration connects Sine with the Torus Technology access control system, allowing visitor and access data to be shared between the two platforms. It enables system integrators to configure automated access permissions for visitors managed through Sine. This guide is intended for system integrators and IT administrators responsible for configuring and maintaining the connection between Sine and Torus.
Overview
Sine integrates natively with Torus to automate physical key issuance and return for visitors and contractors. When a visitor checks in via Sine, Torus generates a one-time PIN and sends it to the visitor's mobile or email, which the visitor then uses to retrieve their assigned keys from the cabinet. On check-out, Sine prompts key return and can block check-out completion until the cabinet confirms the keys have been returned.
How It Works
Sine integrates with the Torus Technology electronic key cabinet system to issue one-time access credentials to visitors and contractors, allowing them to retrieve and return assigned keys as part of their check-in and check-out workflow.
Key Cabinet Check-in
Visitors are issued a one-time credential to retrieve their assigned keys from an electronic key cabinet.
Check-in Flow:
- A visitor or contractor arrives on-site and checks in using either a SinePoint kiosk or the SinePro mobile app.
- Sine sends the visitor's details and assigned key requirements to the Torus Technology key cabinet system.
- The key cabinet system generates a unique access credential, such as a one-time PIN, and delivers it to the visitor via SMS or email.
- The visitor enters their credential at the key cabinet to unlock it and retrieve their assigned keys.
- The key cabinet system logs the key transaction against the visitor's corresponding check-in record in Sine.
Check-out Flow:
- The visitor initiates check-out through Sine, either at a SinePoint kiosk or via the SinePro mobile app.
- Sine notifies the key cabinet system that the visitor is checking out.
- The key cabinet system prompts the visitor to return their keys to the cabinet before check-out can be completed.
- Once the key cabinet system confirms the keys have been returned, Sine completes the visitor's check-out.
- If the visitor does not return the keys, the system sends an overdue alert to the configured contacts.
Requirements
Sine Requirements
- Integration enablement: Your Sine subscription must support and have the Torus integration enabled. Additional fees may apply.
Torus Technology Torus Requirements
- Torus cabinet: Install one or more Torus key cabinets at the target site(s), and ensure they are powered on and connected to the internet.
- Torus cloud account: You need an active Torus cloud account with your cabinet(s) registered and online. Contact Torus Technology or your reseller to provision your account.
- API credentials: Obtain API credentials from the Torus dashboard to authenticate the connection between Sine and your Torus account. These credentials are available from your Torus account settings under API / Integrations.
- Key slots configured: Pre-load key slots with physical keys and configure them in the key management platform so they are ready for assignment to visitor types.
- Testing environment: Have a test cabinet or sandbox environment available to validate the integration before going live.
- SMS delivery: A valid mobile number must be captured at visitor check-in for one-time PIN delivery via SMS. Ensure that your Sine visitor type forms include a mobile number field.
Configuration
Torus Technology Torus Configuration
Torus Configuration
Torus dashboard — API access — Log into the Torus dashboard and navigate to Settings > API / Integrations. Generate an API key with visitor management permissions and copy it for use in Sine.
Key cabinet configuration — In the Torus dashboard, ensure each cabinet is assigned to the correct site and that key slots are labelled and pre-loaded with the corresponding physical keys.
Key sets — Create key sets in Torus to represent groups of keys that should be assigned together. Key sets are referenced when mapping Sine visitor types to Torus key assignments.
PIN delivery settings — In the Torus dashboard, configure the PIN delivery preferences: SMS, email, or both. Ensure the PIN template includes clear instructions for visitors on how to access the cabinet.
Checkout blocking — In the Torus dashboard, confirm whether your account is configured to send key return events back to Sine via webhook. This configuration is required if you want to enable checkout blocking in Sine.
Sine Configuration
General Setup
Admin permissions — Ensure you have Team or Site Admin permissions. These permissions are required to configure integrations.
Log in — Log in to the Sine admin dashboard at https://dashboard.sine.co.
Select site — Navigate to the Locations tab and click on the site you want to configure the integration for.
Add integration — In the Site menu, click the Integrations menu item. Click the Add integration button and select Torus from the list of available integrations. If the integration does not appear in the list, contact support.
Name integration — Enter a name for the integration. You can use any name, but choose one that helps you identify its purpose.
Connection
- Cloud to cloud: This integration uses a direct cloud-to-cloud API connection between Sine and the vendor platform, so no on-premise infrastructure is required.
API Key — Enter your Torus API Key to authenticate the connection between Sine and your key management platform.
Test Connection — Click the Test connection button to confirm that your configuration is correct. Once Sine successfully verifies the connection to your Torus account, the Integration Settings section becomes available.
Integration Settings
Key Assignment
Visitor type mapping — Map each Sine visitor type to a key set or key slot group in Torus. When a visitor of that type checks in, Sine automatically assigns the corresponding keys. This setting controls which keys are assigned to visitors based on their visitor type in Sine.
Key set selection — Select the key sets or individual key slots in Torus that should be available for assignment to visitors. Only keys that are in their home slot and available are assigned.
PIN Delivery
This setting controls how the one-time PIN is delivered to the visitor after check-in.
Select SMS, Email, or both as the PIN delivery channel.
The PIN is sent to the visitor's mobile number captured at check-in. This option requires a mobile number field on the visitor type form.
- PIN message template — Customize the SMS or email message that delivers the PIN to the visitor. The message must include the {{pin}} placeholder, which is replaced with the actual PIN at delivery time.
Checkout Behaviour
Block checkout until keys returned — Toggle on to enforce key return before check-out is completed. When enabled, visitors cannot complete their Sine check-out until the key cabinet confirms that all assigned keys have been returned. When disabled, check-out proceeds immediately and an overdue alert is sent if keys are not returned.
Grace period — Set the number of minutes after check-out before an overdue key alert is sent. Leave blank to send alerts immediately. This setting allows a short window after check-out is initiated before overdue alerts are triggered, giving visitors time to return keys without generating false alerts.
Overdue Key Alerts
Alert contacts — Enter one or more email addresses or mobile numbers that should receive overdue key alerts. Alerts are sent when a visitor checks out or their pass expires without returning their keys.
Alert message — Enter the message body for overdue key alert notifications. Customize the overdue alert message to include any site-specific instructions for recovering unreturned keys.
Messages
- Visitor failure message — If the key management integration fails for any reason, this message is displayed to the visitor at the kiosk.
Notifications
- Send integration failure notifications — If the integration fails, enter one or more email addresses to be notified of the failure and its corresponding details.
